In Animal farm when Mr Jones goes to bed all the animals gather in the barn and old Major (the boar) convince them all that a rebellion must occur. In the rebellion the animals plan to overthrow the owner and live in freedom and where everyone is equal. Major dies and the pigs take over leadership and start preparing for the rebellion. The pigs are lead by two other boars named snowball and Napoleon. Animals at other farms begin to not obey there masters. All the animals work very hard but they don't care because they know its for the good the animals. The animals write the Seven Commandments of Animalism on the barn wall. The animals take over the farm and drive the humans off. The owner Mr. Jones comes back with other men and weapons and tries to take back over the farm. The animals defeat them. Eventually Napoleon gets nine dogs to chase Snowball off the farm because they keep arguing and he wants to be the only leader. They end up trading with other farms and making a windmill as a way of getting money. A neighboring farm comes in and blows up the windmill and ruins everything. The animals realize that life isn't any easier then it use to be and the pis start to turn into humans.

This book tells the history of the Russian revolution and how it changed life back then. When the animals took over the farm, that represents when the workers in Russia took over and seized power from the government. They developed the idea of communism and thought everyone should be treated the same. When the main leader of the communist party died, which in the book would be old Major, two other leaders Stalin and Trotsky fought for power. Stalin who was Napoleon in the book beats out Trotsky and takes over power. Stalin enforced minimum wage laws and the communist party members were viewed as better off then the rest.

The theme in this book that everyone should have all the same things and be the same doesn't really work. If it would have worked i think we would still be using it today. One reason i think it didn't work is that if people are all getting the same amount of money and everything, they don't have the motivation to work hard or sometimes don't even work. If i was getting the same amount of money for working everyday, as i would for not working at all then i wouldn't want to work either. I don't agree with communism because i think if you work hard and have a good job then you deserve to get paid more then someone that doesn't even care and only works half the time. It made me think about if we were a communist nation.

I think the author did a good job showing the theme in this book. He showed that communism wasn't a good thing. He directly related the characters and the actions that went on based on what happened in Russia after the Revolution. I think this was a good book and it taught me a lot, and really made me think.
