Have you ever been to Bears one stop and wondered how it got started? I will tell you what it was like before it was Bears, how it got started, what it is like now, and about the history of convenience stores in general. This paper will focus on the history of Bears one stop.
Before it was called Bears the store was called Floods general store. Floods was located in the same building that Bears is now. Floods was a general store that sold your basic everyday needs, such as Bread, milk, drinks, food, and some other household products. Floods was an old run down store that hadn't had many updates to it. The inside started to get dirty and it wasn't kept the way it should have been. A man named Del Flood. Him, his son, and his wife built and owned the store in 1977. (The daily Me) "Floods was sold in 1990 and reopened as Bears one stop in 1991." (Jeff) The reason the store was sold is that the owner decided he wanted to retire and didn't want to go through the hassle of owning a store anymore. (Jeff)
In 1991 Jeff Amoroso reopened the store and renamed it Bears One stop. Shortly after that renovations were made to the inside of the store. "The floors were redone, new coolers were put in, all the walls were repainted and fixed up, and new shelves were put in. On the outside new siding, and roofing was put on so that in the winter when it snowed the snow wouldn't stay on the roof and cause problems. New gas tanks were also put in under the ground because the other ones were too old." (Jeff) Bears one stop started out as a small family owned business. It is located on the Moosehead trail in Newport Maine. "When it first opened there were around 12 employees working there. Right now there are 6 employees that have been working there ever since it opened." (Jeff) It is named Bears because of a nickname my dad had in High school.
Bears is a convenience store It is located on the Moosehead trail in Newport as I said earlier. Right now it is basically the same as after it reopened although miner changes are made now and then. "It has grown so now about 25-30 employees work there." (Jeff) Sold at Bears are Meat, Groceries, Gas, alcohol, house products, and some hardware items. The store is known for its meat. There is a meat counter and a meet room where you can buy fresh custom cut meat. There are meat cutters that work in the meat room all day to serve and custom cut meat for customers when they come in. There is also a fresh bakery where bread, deserts, breakfast, and lunch items are made. "The snack/impulse items have the highest percent of profit although the most amount of money is made on meat." (Jeff) "The hardest part about owning it is dealing with employees and customers when things aren't going right. It is also the best part." (Jeff) "Right up there with the hardest is trying to compete with the big chain store such as Wal Mart, Shop and save, and even other businesses in town. If it weren't for the customers we wouldn't be in business" (Jeff)
Bears just didn't magically turn into a convenience store. The birth of the convenience store was in May of 1927 by the Southland Ice Company. (www. Nacsonline.com/nr/exeres) Convenience stores were created from a lot of different retail establishments. They realized that customers needed to buy things after local groceries stores were closed. They became popular in areas that were too small to have a supermarket. They are also good if you are in a hurry and don’t have time to go to a supermarket. It is basically one stop shopping without waiting in line and that is what made them popular. It is often hard for convenience stores to compete with the big chain supermarkets because they don’t have all the items in as big amounts. Big supermarkets can also often sell items cheaper because of how much money they make and they can buy items cheaper most times. Convenience stores usually sell gasoline and that gives them an advantage over the big supermarkets because they usually don’t.
There is a lot of history about Bears one stop, and I told a lot of it in this paper. In this report I told you about the history of Bears one stop and how it started, what it was like before it was Bears, about the store and what it sells, and the history of convenience stores in general. Now you know the history of bears and convenience stores.

Exam 5 essay
1. Mao and Stalin both came to power in similar ways. They both stated out as soldiers and came to power. They are both dictators. Stalin was somewhat good to his people and so was Mao.
2. Mao came to power by using Democratic dictatorship. He made everyone participate in the democracy. When Hitler came to power he promised people things and that made them like him. The he could basically do what he wanted. Mao and Hitler both killed a lot of people. They both had camps that they sent people off to and tortured/killed them.
3. When dictators come to power they usually try to get everyone to like them and trust them. Little by little they start taking control of everything. They have complete power and control everything.

Spanish civil war prompt
World war II prompt
- Propaganda is messages that are tring to influence large numbers of people. Propaganda during the spanish civil war was often in the form of posters and paintings. Art is not aimed at influenceing people it is just made to show something. I dont think the painting is propaganda because to me its not aimed at influencing people either way.
- The painting shows the bombing of Guernica. It shows some people dying and people all tangled up on the ground. Based on looking at the painting it was a very violent bombing with a lot of deaths.
- The bombing of Guernica was an arial attack by the German planes. They were trying to bomb and destroy a city for the first time by air. They were the foundation for many areal attacks to be tried.
World war II prompt
- In the 1930's there was a huge unemployment rate. Millions of people were without jobs. The economy was also very poor at this time. This provide an opportunity for the Nazis because people were tired of having no jobs and being poor. They would elect almost anyone if they would promis jobs and a better economy. The Nazis took advantage of that.
- The burning of the reichstag allowed Hitler to make the communists and socialists look bad because he put the blame on them. The Nazis promised jobs and that they would turn Germany around. Propaganda also helped the Nazis because it made the others look bad. They were able to show that the weimar republic was incapable for looking after the interests of its people. He said that the Nazis were the only way Germany could survive. Things were so bad at the time in Germany people started to follow and they finally elected him.
- The Germans didnt rise against Hitler because they were afraid of him. He was the most powerful man in the country at the time.

The Colombian Exchange transformed the world in a more radical (drastic) way than any other development in world history. One significant effect of this process (series of actions) was the establishment of the Triangle Trade. While many factors were a part of the Triangle Trade, the rapid growth in both supply and demand for new commodities was the largest motivating element. This time period may be best associated (related to) with economic developments, but it is impossible to analyze (research/examin) this period without considering the intense social impact that the Triangle Trade had on those involved. In truth, a full understanding can only be gained by appreciating (understanding and respect) how economic and social factors (things that influence) impact each other in history.

Fast food Nation
Derek Amoroso
In Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser is about the history of fast food. Fast food started in the 1950's in southern California. It started with hot dog stands on the side of the road. Then it moved to drive in restaurants because people were too lazy to get out of there cars. With the drive in restaurants waitresses called car hops would come out to take orders and bring out the food. All those were independent restaurants owned by a family or one person. Soon after chains like McDonalds started opening up and taking over the other restaurants. Ray Croc took McDonalds and spread it worldwide. Since then countless other fast food chains have started up and also spread throughout the United States and the world. This book tells the bad side of fast food and I will think twice next time I feel like McDonalds.
This book tells the history of fast food and how it has changed for the worst. It tells how the food is made, cooked, and served. I would have never known all these bad things if I hadn't read the book. The factories are very dangerous to work in and also not very healthy. The work conditions are bad. It also tells how diseases can spread. I think the author is trying to send a message that fast food is not good.
This theme in this book shows that fast food isn’t as good as you thought. It really makes me think about what I am eating every time I order fast food. I think it has not only influenced me but others that have read the book as well. Maybe people will realize that its not as good as it looks, and you never know what might be in it. I think people are not educated well enough about how the food we eat is processed. Some people might think again about some of the food choices they make if they know how it’s made.
I think the author did a good job showing the theme and showing that he is clearly against fast food. He used specific examples of factories and fast food incidents that do not promote fast food chains. I think it is a good theme and if more people felt this way then the obesity rate in America and even other countries would go down. This book really did a good job of making me think and it defiantly changed my perception of fast food. Overall I think this is a good theme to learn and I think the author showed it well.

This is a picture during the french revolution. in the back ground there is smoke which most likely means kaos. In this battle there were alot of casulaties i can tell because there are bodies all over the floor. there was a solider holding the new flag which means that they won this battle. there are also alot of women in the french revolution.
This is a picture of a women holding the new flag. this means that women are gaining rights. This is a very important part of the revolution. There are also a lot of dead people and this means that there was a lot of death during the revolution. In conclusion i saw similar themes in all pictures.

This picture shows a women holding the new flag. This means that women are gaining rights and equality. I think that is a very important part of the revolution. It also shows dead bodies on the ground. This tells me that a lot of people died and sacrificed there life for the war.

This is a picture of storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison and at this time only had seven prisoners. Its fall started the french revolution. The middle class joined together to try to get power from the king. They took out the prison and that was a big step for them. This was proof that power no longer was in the hands of kings and gods.
This is a picture during the french revolution. This shows a lot of smoke which tells me that either there is a lot of weapons being fired or they are burning something down. There were many people killed in this battle. There is a girl holding the new flag which means they won that battle. That also means that women are gaining equality. All three of these points were a big part of the revolution. In conclusion i saw similar themes in all of the pictures. One of the big themes was equality. They were fighting so that everyone was equal. Another theme is women's rights. There was women in the pictures holding flags which was meant to symbolize women's rights. I think these are good reasons and are meaningful themes.

This is an early image because the machine is big and made of wood. Two men are working and no women. It looks like an unsafe invirenment because one man is swinging an ax close to another guy. There is also some uncovered cables and pullys. I think this would be textile. It is a big building with not many people working there.

Using technology
I am fairly comfortable using technology. I'm not great at it but if i use it more i think i will get better at it. I would rather use it then paper and pencil. I am ok with the plan for the year.
